Founder Story — Dr. Kalyani Anandhan
Kadhambam is rooted in the lifelong journey of Dr. Kalyani, a dedicated Bharatanatyam artiste, teacher, researcher, and cultural torchbearer. Coming from a fifth-generation lineage of classical artists, dance has always been more than an art form for her — it is heritage, devotion, and identity passed down through her mother, grandmother, and grandfather, all of whom lived and breathed Bharatanatyam for decades.
From her earliest years, she trained under the loving guidance of her mother, who shaped her foundation and discipline. As she grew, her artistic path deepened under the mentorship of the legendary Bharatanatyam guru K.J. Sarasa, whose teachings refined her expression, strengthened her technique, and shaped her philosophy as a dancer.
Her pursuit of excellence led her to complete her Doctorate in Dance, exploring the depth, evolution, and cultural significance of Bharatanatyam. She went on to serve as a lecturer at Madras University and various music colleges, nurturing students with the same passion and rigour she inherited from her gurus.
Today, she continues this legacy through her renowned dance institution in Chennai, Kalyani Bharathalaya, where she trains the next generation of dancers with love, discipline, and respect for tradition. Her performances, presented on prestigious stages across India, carry the emotional richness and cultural depth of her lineage.
